WHEELOCK COLLEGE NAMED A LEADING COMMUNITY SERVICE INSTITUTION IN MASSACHUSETTS

President Obama’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll placed Wheelock College on its 2012 Honor Roll with Distinction

(BOSTON, MA) March 15, 2012 – Wheelock College is now a member of President Obama’s 2012 Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction. The College was recognized with the award for its commitment to community service and civic engagement. Wheelock is among 110 national colleges including six Massachusetts colleges named with the Honor Roll with Distinction award. This is the second year Wheelock has been placed on the Honor Roll and the first time it has been recognized on the Honor Roll with Distinction.

Wheelock College has over 280 community partnerships with Boston-area schools, social service agencies and hospitals that bring over 60 percent of Wheelock students into the field for more than 100,000 hours of service each year. Service is an integral part of the Wheelock experience in line with the school’s mission to improve the lives of children and families.

According to Wheelock College President Jackie Jenkins-Scott, “Wheelock is honored to be recognized by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Wheelock students, faculty, staff and alumni strive to inspire a world of good through unique, innovative and passionate service. From international volunteer work to service learning courses here in Boston, the Wheelock community engages in a broad scope of service and we strive to support communities locally, nationally and internationally” she said.
