Job Opportunity: Lead Family Partner on Early Childhood Systems of Care

The Boston Public Health Commission is seeking candidates with both professional/educational background in early childhood development, social work or other relevant field AND the lived experience of raising young children with mental health conditions or social and emotional developmental challenges, to join the Launch/MyChild team. Boston residency or willingness to relocate is required.

SALARY:   45,000-50,000 range DOE

HOURS:   FT salaried. Occasional weekends & evenings are required.

The Lead Family Partner on Early Childhood Systems of Care will play a central role in building a system of care responsive to the social and emotional needs of children ages birth through 8, as part of the LAUNCH and MYCHILD initiatives.  The Lead Family Partner will serve on the BPHC early childhood mental health team and report to the LAUNCH Program Manager.  The primary responsibilities include building partnerships for a comprehensive early childhood system of care, leading a city-wide council focused on best practices in Pediatric Medical Homes, and developing outreach strategies to promote workforce development on early childhood social and emotional health.

DUTIES:  

  • Work collaboratively to identify gaps in resource and services available to families of young children ages birth-8
  • Co-chair and co-facilitate a leadership council focused on building interagency partnerships for an early childhood system of care in Boston, rooted in Pediatric Medical Homes
  • Align LAUNCH & MYCHILD medical home efforts with city wide initiatives promoting early childhood health and school readiness
  • Develop strategies to integrate the pediatric medical home model with early childhood resources through outreach and education to potential partners
  • Provide technical assistance to child-serving agencies on strategies to integrate early childhood mental health into their services & coordinate care with Pediatric Medical Homes
  • Develop and manage subcontracts and agreements with child-serving agencies to promote workforce development on early childhood social and emotional health
  • Identify and respond to opportunities to promote public awareness around early childhood mental health at a local and state level
  • Develop LAUNCH & MYCHILD outreach materials aimed at promotion of early childhood social and emotional development to diverse families and community partners
  • Participate in oversight committees, implementation meetings, Learning Collaborative, federal site visits, and federal conferences & trainings as deemed necessary
  • Meets regularly with the Program Manager regarding all aspects of program operations, including but not limited to matters pertaining to program staff and other confidential matters. May represent management in grievance and arbitration process, including but not limited to hearing and adjusting grievances, and attending grievance and arbitration hearings.  Works in a confidential capacity with the Program Manager.  Operates independently. Uses independent judgment and discretion to make decisions affecting the program and staff as it relates to program operations/services and BPHC policy.  Provides supervision to assigned staff.
  • Performs other duties as required.
 Minimum Qualifications:
  • BA/BS required in social work, early childhood development or education, nursing, health, psychology, public policy, communications or another relevant field.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with the barriers faced by children with SED and their families. Knowledge of Boston area service systems, agencies and resources that assist families. Experience working in early childhood education, childcare, pediatrics, or other settings that serve young children and their families. Experience in coordinating and facilitating group workshops, meetings, and educational or training programs. Experience as a parent, guardian or mentor of an infant or young child utilizing mental health, developmental or special education services is highly preferred.

Skills: Excellent organization skills – ability to manage time and effort on multiple projects; Oral and written communication skills – ability to clearly present ideas verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences.  Problem solving skills; Excellent interpersonal skills; Comfortable working in diverse communities and in both clinical and non-clinical arenas ; Ability to work well as a team and independently; Must be proficient using Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint.

This position may require direct client/patient contact and as a result of such direct contact, certain immunizations will be recommended and/or required prior to commencement of employment duties.

A Criminal Offenders Records Information request must be completed for this position.  However, a record is not an automatic bar to employment but is reviewed in relation to the job applied for.
