“Is it Over Yet?!”

Supporting the little ones with our own well-being

It seems the relief and optimism many of us felt in springtime, with its wave of COVID-19 vaccinations and new opportunities to connect with family and friends, may be giving way to some current concerns about variants of the virus.

With many parents and guardians returning regularly to workplaces for the first time since March 2020, and children returning to care settings and schools, special attention must to be paid to the social emotional needs resulting from both the pandemic and the return to the new realities we all face. Our youngest children, who rely so heavily on routine, need extra reassurance during times a transitions – especially when some elements seem hard to predict. Do I wear a mask? Do the grown-ups? Why is it only some people sometimes? These questions aren’t always easy to answer.

Remember that adults must invest in their own well-being in order to be calm, responsive caregivers and teachers. Whether you are a parent or professional, take the time to practice self-care and self-reflection.
